“An Evening in Paris” – An Event for Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington

This gorgeous event was for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Arlington, held at the Omni Hotel in Fort Worth. The theme this year was “An Evening in Paris,” and the planning committee wanted to use golds and pinks. For the small arrangements of pink rosebuds, I utilized tiny Eiffel Tower ornaments and lit them from beneath. For the medium arrangements, I put flowers around 36″ Eiffel Towers that I also lit from beneath using LED lights. I used gold candelabras for the large arrangements. The candles in these arrangements plus the mercury glass votive candles on each table created the perfect ambiance for an elegant evening of dining and dancing.

Yellow & Black Tie Gala

One of my favorite events to do the flowers for each November is the Yellow & Black Tie Gala held at the Renaissance Dallas Richardson Hotel to raise money for the Methodist Richardson Cancer Center. This was my 3rd year to do the flowers. Every year the theme is black and yellow; the design challenge is to do something different each year, while staying in the color scheme. This year I created three distinct looks: a vase with yellow roses under water, tall art deco vases with yellow rose balls, and luminous candle centerpieces (a personal favorite!). I’m already dreaming up new ideas for next year!

Cynthia & Aaron: A Fall Wedding at The Milestone

Cynthia and Aaron had a beautiful fall wedding and reception at The Milestone in Krum, Texas near Denton. When I first met with the bride and groom to discuss wedding flowers, they told me that they wanted to use their favorite flowers: bluebonnets and sunflowers. I incorporated sunflowers and silk bluebonnets along with red gerbera daisies. I also cut oak leaves and Johnson grass for the personal flowers and arrangements. I lined the aisle with sunflowers; then after the ceremony, I moved the sunflowers by the lanterns outside the reception hall. The groom’s father constructed the wooden cross used at the ceremony. Everything about this wedding reflected the beauty of fall.

Best Wedding & Reception Venues in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

My Favorite Wedding and Reception Venues

With over 30 years of designing flowers in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, I’ve been to countless wedding and reception venues. I’ve been to the good, the bad, and the incredible. There are so many choices for Dallas-Fort Worth area brides. With so many options to sift through, friends, family, and clients often ask me for recommendations when trying to find the perfect place for their wedding and reception.

While it’s nearly impossible for me to simply peg “my favorite” venue, I have compiled a list of venues that I can whole-heartedly recommend. Varying in size, price, location, and atmosphere, each of these venues has something different to offer. While this is not an exhaustive list (I continue to add to it as I find new places), it will hopefully give brides in the DFW area a good place to start searching for their dream wedding and reception venue.

 Ruthe Jackson Center

3113 S Carrier Pkwy
Grand Prairie, TX 75052

I love having weddings at the Ruthe Jackson Center for many reasons. There is a lovely gazebo in their outdoor garden area that is an ideal spot for an outdoor wedding. The staff always maintains beautiful gardens that change with the season. The indoor facility is just as nice, with several ballrooms to choose from for the reception. Plus, the indoor facility makes for a lovely Plan B in case of rain–a must for outdoor weddings in Texas. The event coordinator Cheryl Allgood is wonderful to work with; she treats brides like each one is her own daughter.

The Ashton Depot is quite a unique venue to have a wedding and reception, as it was once a train station. Built in the late 1800s, this incredible building was recently restored; it is absolutely gorgeous. There are indoor and outdoor wedding and reception areas, and the on-site catering is wonderful.

Check out their website to see some beautiful photos. It is a truly magnificent building; the perfect setting for a dream wedding.

The Meadows Museum of Art (www.meadowsmuseumdallas.org) across the street from the chapel is a perfect place to host a reception. SMU is centrally located in Dallas, so it’s easy to have the reception in downtown as well.

Mila & Ryan: A Gorgeous Wedding

Mila and Ryan’s wedding was absolutely gorgeous. Even the pouring down rain couldn’t keep the smiles off the wedding party and guests at this lovely celebration. The wedding ceremony and reception were held at Piazza in the Village in Colleyville where the beautiful chapel and ballroom set the backdrop for a dazzling wedding. Mila wanted a soft, elegant look for the wedding flowers, so I used white hydrangea, white and lavender roses, lavender Picasso calla lilies, and lavender stock.

Read Mila’s thoughts about her wedding day:

The big day finally arrived. I chose September to be married because I was hoping for cool, not rainy weather. Sure enough, it started to pour right at the moment we were setting up the venue. Vicki arrived to the venue even before I did. The downpour did not stop her from setting up the chapel, ballroom and bridal party. At one point, I looked over to Vicki and she was literally sopping wet head to toe. She ensured me that the rain did not ruin any of the flowers. At the end of the reception, Vicki arrived to help my family clean up the ballroom, which was so much appreciated.

To say that our flowers were beautiful would be a understatement. Vicki was able to take my poor attempt at describing flowers that I like and turn them into a masterpiece. She worked with our budget to create designs that took my breath away. It has been nine months since our wedding and I still look at the pictures of the flowers from time to time. Working with Vicki was easy and the outcome is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Jordan & Sean: An Autumn Wedding

Jordan and Sean’s wedding ceremony was held in the beautiful Marty Leonard Chapel in Fort Worth, and their reception was held in City Club in downtown Fort Worth.

Jordan wanted her October wedding to have an Autumn, shabby chic look. She specifically wanted to use yellow craspedia, a small, yellow flower. I incorporated sunflowers, yellow roses, and succulents along with the yellow craspedia, which contrasted nicely with the bridesmaids’ dark blue dresses. Jordan also wanted to use log slices throughout the wedding reception. I custom designed the log slice dessert stand and centerpieces from a fallen tree, about 24 inches in diameter. The log slices, topped with candles, sunflowers, and succulents, made for rustic, yet elegant, table centerpieces.

Ashley & John: A Dreamy Garden Wedding

Ashley and John had a beautiful outdoor wedding in the garden at the Ruthe Jackson Center in Grand Prairie, Texas. The mid-September evening was perfect for a wedding, the gardens were in full bloom, and the gazebo was transformed into a breezy canopy. Though the reception was held inside one of the ballrooms, the couple slipped away to dance their final dance under the beautifully lit canopy before their getaway.

Rebecca & Arie: An Italian Wedding

My daughter Rebecca grew up helping me in my flower shop. She’d seen big, beautiful weddings all her life. When she was working for me in high school, she warned me that she didn’t want to have a big wedding, but something very small and intimate. When she was in college and studying abroad to Italy, she told me she wanted to have a destination wedding in Tuscany. Years later, when she met Arie, I started saving my money for plane tickets and brushing up on names of flowers in Italian.

Rebecca & Arie chose to get married at Il Greppo, a charming winery in Montepulciano, Italy. Rebecca wanted a simple, elegant wedding overlooking the vineyard. I used flowers to complement the natural beauty of Tuscany–deep orange calla lilies, white roses, and succulents. I also incorporated flowers from the land itself–lavender, Queen Anne’s lace, olive branches, and grapevine. I tucked in handkerchief’s that belonged to different members of the bride’s family. The whole wedding day was absolutely gorgeous, my daughter’s dream brought to life.
